My brother is a computer programmer and programs micro controllers for a living. He was wanting a side project he could make a few bucks on. I was telling him to look in niche markets.

So I was telling him how an O2 sensor worked and how the TBIs were a little on the lean side.

He said a custom pulse width modulator would be no problem. And could adjust the signal from the O2 sensor to tell the computer it is a little lean thus richening the fuel mixture. He said he could make something like this for about $20 including profit.

That was just an idea I had. I don't know if stuff like this is already available or if their would be some better things you guys could could come up with. He said the micro controller could have more than one input for basically the same price, so could control other things also.

Any thoughts?

 

I'm taking Electronics Engineering Technology, and while I had some thoughts before starting the program, the more I learn the more ideas I get.

There have been O2 sensor spoofing devices for years and is really not a reliable way to increase fuel delivery. Tuning the actual ECM is the best solution.

The Arduino, Teensy and many other dev boards seem to be a devices used by many people to develop micrcontroller based projects like this.

 

I showed him the chip in my extra 454 ECM. He said he has the stuff to program them. But he would need all the info.

I was looking more for something that isn't currently available that he could produce.

But FYI micro controller programming isn't to hard to learn and is in very high demand as far as jobs go.
