CanI get a better computer?
I bought an '87 Iroc with a pretty stout motor that wouldn't run right. I got it cheap enough that I could spend some money on it for a little dyno time and a custom chip. The tuner called today and asked if I wanted to tune the car to the stock computer or would I like to upgrade? Is the there a better computer out there? My motor has a cam cam of unknown specs but not stock ,edelbrock heads, acell intake bigger runners of some make, msd ignition. i don't know the compression and much else about it. but it falls flat on it's face at about 3500 rpms any help would be great. This place has been great to me and my many Irocs

Re: CanI get a better computer?
Define: "upgrade".
To some people the stock ECM is a better piece of equipment than most aftermarket ECUs.
"Upgrade" is in the eye of the purchaser. Some people look at certain functions of a different ECU to be able to tune in a different way as an "upgrade" while others look at them as a shift sideways or downgrade due to losing other functions.
There's also newer code that will work in your ECM, that some people consider an "upgrade".

You can pick up a Holley Commander 950 pretty cheap these days. Easy to convert the harness over and it allows you to tune the car in real time while it is running. I have been running one for 10 years now.

Like Ronny said, its about your personal preferences. I am a firm proponent of MegaSquirt, I have owned and used all of them but there are a few features that the stock ecm via help through dynamic efi can offer that MegaSquirt cannot, yet.
