Did some work on an 83 sc for a friend up here, he has the computer controlled carb and was having troubles with it running like crap, he just bought it. The prvious owner did some hokey wiring and put some dinger in by tapping into the inst lamp fuse and the ecm fuse, which prevented me from flashing the CEL. Once I removed it and got it back to normal I pulled the codes and got 51, which to me is a toasted prom. Are there any bins/def files out there for something this far back? Idk of anyone tuning an 83 carbed v6 lol or is there somewhere he can buy the chip? I know tunedperformance has had quite a few chips over the years and I was wondering which ones would be compatible with his ecm? He just needs it up and running so its either find a chip (AJK) or burn an eeprom with the stock bin/def files, any help here guys?

 

I've got a chip (well, the whole computer) for a 1982 with a carbed V6. If you can't get one burned, I could probably ship it to you.

 

He just tried a seperate ecm he got from eBay. No luck and the check engine light is still on solid, I'm a little confused as to what to do, my knowledge of cc carbs is limited but I do know that a solid ses at all times is no good

 

I've got the factory service manual for an '82. Let me peek at it tonight and see what it says to check.

 

Yeah, that code says replace ECM. Take the chip back out, make sure all the connections are clean. If it keeps coming up, it may have a bad computer.
