350 Computers

Hey guys,

Im going to start off by saying I know very little about the computer involved stuff on our f-bodies. Im planning on doing a 350 swap into my 91 bird that currently has the 3.1l V6 in it and i need some help/information.

I am able to get my hands on a 350 TBI, a computer and the wiring, but it is coming out of a s-10 blazer.

the engine looks like this, it is not this one! http://berlinetta.info/mypics/91RS/LO3Aftenoon.jpg

So my question is: do all 350 computers run the same way/have the same tune. If they dont, is it possible to change the tune to a factory 350 fbody?

If the ecm came out of a s series truck the largest engine that came in a s series was a 4.3L. You might be better off looking for a harness from someone parting out a 90-92 bird with a L03. They used the 1227746 ecm the same ecm that was use in the 89 caprice. You can use the caprice prom with the L05 engine and automatic transmission. The last updated tune was the atjp.

Oh okay, would a caprice ecu run better in terms of performance than a truck ecu? Or would they run the same?

Re: 350 Computers

As far as performance im sure there about the same, The caprice/camaros, Firebirds use a iat as a input aswell. To get the stock speedometerto work you will need to get a vss buffer from a f-body. Your 1227730 ecm from the 3.1L had it built into the ecm. If you need any programing assistance send me a pm

Okay, so my plans have changed. I'm now getting a 350 engine out of a 94 Chevy 2500. The problem is that the computer is for a manual trans. I want to use this engine with a 700r4 since I already have one. Is it possible to use this ecu, or will I need to find another one?
I have spent a fee hours looking through the forums and have found one relevant thread which said I needed to add stuff to the harness.
Is it easier to get a harness for an auto trans truck and just use that?

Thanks in advance!

Re: 350 Computers

The truck harness is no way would be a plug and play. I would look for a 90-92 tbi firebird harness and ecm or a camaro harness. Since the battery is on the opposite side on a bird vs a camaro a few wires would need to be reworked. Just guessing its a 427 ecm a manual calibration can be converted to a automatic in programing. The tbi trucks us a drac
and 40 ppm vss signal. You will be ahead money and frustration wise posting a ad in the classifieds to find a ecm and harness from a Lo3 automatic car IMO.

I was afraid that the harness wouldn't work smoothly! I guess piecing together this swap is gonna take a lot longer than planned. Thanks for all the info.
