need advice on ecms...
I have found my computer to be bad. I took the casing off and found the problem to be a small silver "box" that is either shorting out internally or has a bad connection somewhere, just the slightest touch will make it act up.
In the event this is not repairable, my questions are as follows:
Other than f bodies, what cars/trucks share the same ecm as my specific car? It is an 88 Camaro with the 350 tpi (auto).
Mine has "88 s10 2.5l" written on the casing, and I can't remember for sure but I'm nearly office I already replaced the original with this one I bought used off Ebay. I seem to remember reading somewhere that that exact model s10 computer will work (for whatever reason). it had worked well for years so I would believe that's correct, but can anyone confirm this?
I will try to upload a picture of the box I'm referring to, but it may not work.
Thanks in advance!

I just pulled this off rockauto for the compatible computers. Obviously the removable chip inside is different.

Can you post a picture of the small silver box? It's probably a crystal oscillator for the the microprocessor, but can't be sure without seeing it. They are pretty easy to get from digikey. They will have a frequency printed on them. Check the solder joints. Look on the web for what a bad solder joint looks like. Pressing on crystals will change their characteristics too.

That list is great, thank you. I would have never thought to check rock auto honestly. However I guess I'll be answering your answer with another question lol, I see where firebirds are listed there. Yesterday I checked the computer of a same year firebird, only tbi, and it was different of course, the internals looked nothing alike at all. So I think that list is more accurately a list of cars that CAN share the same ecm, but not all models will. How do I know what models will then? Haha it's all very confusing.
I tried to upload it twice and it wouldn't work... I may be able to from my computer later though. I will try to describe it the best I can though. It is the 88 Camaro 5.7 tpi computer. The small silver box I'm referring to is not directly attached to the green surface (motherboard?), instead it is somehow attached to a yellow/faded white plastic price that is maybe 4-6 in long and the plastic piece has three screws holding it to a metal piece where the connectors for the ecu-wiring harness connect. I hope you are able to follow that because I know it's pretty confusing, certainly is hard to describe haha.
Can anyone undoubtedly confirm that an 88 s10 2.5L has the same computer tho? I'm not sure if transmission makes a difference or not tho..
