noob winaldl help
I know there's tons of threads about this but i couldn't find one that answers my problem after searching all morning so I made a new post. I just got my aldl usb cable from reddevilriver.com. my ecm is a 165 so the cable has the 10k resistor on it. in winaldl I can only receive data with the 10k resistor on. the baud is set to 4800, i selected the correct ecm, and the com port 3 was ok'd. with the car in the on position and the resistor on I get an accurate reading of my tps volts but when i remove the resistor the data stops. I also noticed that while looking at the raw data table when i remove the resistor everything after the coolant temp goes blank. when the engine runs with the resistor on i get the obvious high idle and once i remove it the idle gets normal again but the data stops flowing. I'm a complete noob at this so go easy on me, thanks

Re: noob winaldl help
This doesn't sound right, with the 10K resistor the ECM should be sending data at 8192 baud. W/o the resistor at 160 baud that WinALDL can understand (using 2400 or 4800 baud at the COM port).
Either way getting good ALDL data from the '7165 ECM has always been problematic.
Another thought, being a Pontiac, does it have a digital dash or a factory trip display? With a trip display the ALDL stream is different.
RBob.
