SES light on all the time

Hello,
We have an 1987 Base Firebird with LG4 305, 5 speed and air. Other threads I read concerning this issue seem to concern modified cars. This car is bone stock.
The Service Engine Soon light is on constantly and does not go out so there is no way to jump the cavities in the ODB1 connector and see what fault codes exist. Car runs fine. Is there a way to reset this light so that if any codes are present they can be recorded. The choke indicator light also seems to stay on for extended periods of time as well.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Joel

Re: SES light on all the time

The ses is illuminated all of the time with the key on. When the a and b terminals are jumped in the connector it remains illuminated so we can't get a code.
Thank you
