EBL? P4?

Ok so I have a frankencamarro 85, with 87 ECM and MAF sporting a 350 v8... Yea you guessed it, MAF problems. I also have the one year HEI computer advance distributor for the 85 305 v8. It's the screw down, coil in cap, HEI.

So I need to pull the trigger here and dump this damned MAF system. Not even orileys sells a good MAF now. I need to keep the egr system and evap so I figure EBL is the way to go. Was told I needed an EBL P4, looked it up and I'm thinking the EBL would be an easier swap... And save me a few bucks.

My only intension with this car is to have a dependable daily driver with some guts. I may do a few mods down the road but nothing insane.

Anyway if I'm understanding what I'm reading the EBL is 85-89 ECM harness, and the EBL p4 is 90-92 ECM harness. I'm just trying to sort through all the info to figure out what I need to get this project in motion.

If you don't think repinning your harness is a good idea for a weekend project.
Look for a 90-92 tpi sd harness and repin c100 or rework a tpi maf harness so your ready to do the swap easier.

Re: EBL? P4?

That hits on my main question, I suppose I danced around it but never really asked.

EBL - uses 85-89 ECM harness and utilizes MAF wires to connect MAP sensor. Likely a 2 hour swap... If I'm drunk lol.

EBL P4 - uses 90-92 harness, either a full rewire or new ECM harness would be needed. Better clear a weekend.

Is the EBL really that easy? A new map sensor and a little wiring? Is the p4 worth the expense of a harness or wiring time? Am I completely wrong about something?

Faster processor speed, ease of tuning. I would say if you have done many engine modifications yes that's the way to go. If your looking for just a ECM upgrade better calibrations and faster processor do the 870 to 165 conversion and use a 89 f-body tune like AUJM if you still have cast iron heads.

I tend to push folks with the '85 - '89 TPI set ups to the EBL Flash with the Port Mod. There is a lot less re-pinning to do over the EBL P4 system.

Along with the EBL Flash ECM having the same form factor as the stock ECM. Note that the burn-off module can also go-away.

RBob.
