I bought an ecm for my 350 swap in an 84 cc carb 5 speed and the ecm was for an auto i switched the chip from the old one and check engine light lit so i believe the ecms are diffrent too.

The ECM's are the same on the new cars, 165 and 730 series ECM's, just different proms.
I have a 730 series and just bought a prom for a 90-92 305 5 speed. They listed a few proms for my style ecm in an f-body, one or two were 1990 specific and the others were 90-92, 305 auto, 305 manual, and 350 auto.
