Is this thing for real ?

http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html I read about this thing on there web page. Looks kind of interesting,(and I'm a little skeptical) but if it will do what it says it will do for a $150 in parts,WoW. For a conversion from a carb car to tbi or tpi system this is cheap.

At first glance it seems very interesting. I'm going to look at it more closely when I get a chance.

I would also like to hear more about it. It sounds pretty freakin cool. I think I read all of what is on the site. I emailed the guy, but he never replied. Supposedly, it can be converted to run with a Wide Band 02 sensor. The A/F tables have less data points in them, but the points in between are interpolated by the software. One thing that is cool is the fact that there is DOCUMENTED software (written is ASM, though ) for the microprocessor. I found the microprocessor on the web for 10 or 15 bucks. If this turns out to be a decent system, let everyone know. I just may try this out in place of the SpeedPRo system I was gonna get

Yes its for real.

IIRC, Bowling & Grippo have been around since the early days of DIY EFI & GM ECM & so on. I think that one or both of them did most of the work on the EFI332, on the DIY site.

You did read that it's fuel only so far right?.
1/2 of the advantage of even running EFI is for the timing control.
While it offers the Source Code, that is possible to do with some of the hacs out there.

Grumpy, it looks like a good cheap starting point for someone interested in changing over from a carb setup. As improvements come they can be added as an upgrade. If someone wants an efi system to control everything then he need not look further than the oem's. Or aftermarket if thats what he wants. As I mentioned above it's just a cheap alternative to and step above a carb. Thats all I saw in this system at this time and I think that was what was stated on the web site as the designers intention as well. Thats all!

The question here isn't what can't it do. It's what can you make it do. With schematics and documented source code, what can the DIY'er add to the system to do whatever they want. Let's see if we can make this thing control timing, or whatever...

Or to make it A LOT easier and more reliable, go to a junkyard... spend 20-30 dollars and get a nice '730 ECM and run your injectors AND your timing with readily available components and harness. Plus not to mention the miriad of tools available to tune it.
