Holley Distributorless Ignition System (P/N 556-101)

Has anyone tried something like the Holley Distributorless Ignition System (P/N 556-101) on a TPI engine?

https://www.holley.com/products/igni.../parts/556-101

The Holley unit costs about $600 plus $180 for the 58 tooth crank sensor kit.

For a SBC it has four coils and produces a wasted spark.

Seems like a similar but easier conversion than a Ford EDIS or Northstar conversion.

The only review I've seen so far showed a dyno change of just 3hp.

From what I can gather I can use my stock 165 ECU to drive it?

Re: Holley Distributorless Ignition System (P/N 556-101)

Here are the details for the Universal Small Block Chevy crank sensor mounting kit PART# 556-102 (about $180.

https://www.holley.com/products/igni.../parts/556-102

Biggest hassle seems to be the need to cut the the crank balancer and move it and the accessory pulleys our a bit to make room for the crack sensor.

Can't be used with your '7165 ECM. Each coil needs to be triggered individually via the ECM. Apparently, the ECM also interfaces to the crank sensor. Which means it needs to decode the missing tooth wheel.

That's what I don't understand. The Holley doesn't include it's own ECM, but still must have some way to work out the ignition advance curve.

I assumes that a combination of the crank sensor and the ECU 165 signal triggered the coils?

It's an add on/conversion for Holley ECUs, not a stand alone DIS system.

Very interesting.

I don't think the MPR unit is available yet, but I'll keep an eye on it.

What a rip off. $780 just for an add on to a Holley EFI ecm which will cost you just as much. For anybody considering purchasing this-- MegaSquirt can control any ignition system without the need for special and expensive parts. Just go to a junkyard and buy the ignition system from an 5.3 truck engine and follow the Mega Manual or a forum thread on how to install and setup.

Holley will do that too. You can add junk yard coils just like you can with a MS. Only thing you need is the harness and a way to trigger them the same way you would with a MS. Like this;

Re: Holley Distributorless Ignition System (P/N 556-101)

Just talked to holley the other and they are discontinuing the dis systems and moving away from the crank trigger. Was told they are releasing a kit mid year with the cnp ls style that will use a dual sync dis to fire it. No crank trigger

Re: Holley Distributorless Ignition System (P/N 556-101)

So the new Holley DIS will have both a crank and camshaft trigger that are synchronised?

Wonder how this would fit on a SBC?

What I was told in the phone was thatbyou dont need the crank trigger wheel. Use their dual sync dis, use the dummy cover and get their cnp kit.
