Use GM ECM (EBL) for spark control only?

I decided to do my EBL system in phases and for the first phase I wired all of the sensors except those on the throttle body, so all I have is spark control. It really livened up the vehicle (GMC Motorhome Olds 455). I am seeing knocks and have verified that the knock sensor is not working (it's mounted in the water jacket port).

Tried modifying the BIN and taking out about 4 deg of spark at 70 and up MAP and 2200 and up RPM (3200 RPM is about 65 mph) and it seemed to help, but I think getting the knock sensor/ESC working correctly is the answer.

If anyone's tried this and has some advice for a less than novice tuner, please comment. Thanks!

I did the same on my first retro-fit, thread that has a write up about it:

As for the knock, it may be false knock. Much more common then folks believe. If the sensor is too sensitive can mount it on a street elbow.
