trying to read OBD I with the cable
Hi there, I´m former F-body owner, trying my luck there with another GM car. I have a red devil cable and trying to read OBD I on my LG4 stock 87 Caprice. With the cable connected, keys turned ON (engine not running) the car does not sound happy. With the 10k resistor plugged in, there is blinking yellow CHECK YOUR ENGINE light very fast like someone is playing with the positive cable on the battery for intermittent connection backed up with kind of sparkling noise coming from the engine compartment. If resistor is unplugged, the light turns ON consistently and noise is gone, you can check the behavior on this video:
Just want to check with you, if anyone experienced such a behavior's when trying to read the data? Is in it dangerous for ECU? Should I leave the resistor removed? Thanks for your tips

Re: trying to read OBD I with the cable
The ALDL on the CCC engines is goofy. The noise you are hearing is likely the MCS being exercised.Even with a running engine the idle speed is changed, timing is added to force detonation and so many other things.
I gave up on CCC ALDL use for engine diagnostics.
