Need new ECM, will any work from '89?

Just wondering which ECMs would work in my car so I can try to find a used one. Thanks

From: The Bone Yard
Car: Death Mobile
Engine: 666 c.i.
Your ECM is the 1227165 and it was used on all TPI 350/305 cars from 86-89. Also, 4 cyl 2.5L TBI small trucks from 1987-1991 (engine LN8) used the same ECM.

There is one replacement ECM #16198259 that will also work in place of the 1227165.

Safe bet, go to a wrecking yard and ask for the ECM for a 1988 S-10 with the 2.5 L 4 Cylinder engine and make sure the label has the numbers I mention above. Often, ECMs for F-bodies/Vettes are often more expensive than the equivalent from the TBI truck.

The ECM is $75 from my local wrecking yard. Dealer is $225. Definitely going to get the used one. I was messing around with the timing and the engine runs fine when I unplug the brown ground wire but otherwise it backfires a lot.
