Cable and a Laptop

Ok, I am new to proms and scanning. I have a 1987 Z28 with the Q-Jet Carb. It was a 305, but now has a 383. I simply want to hook up a cable and scan with a laptop. I mainly want to see my knock sensor and timing retard. Being a carb car, I doubt I will try burning, but I would like to somewhat learn what is going on.

Also, what type of chip/ecm to I have? Is it completly different from the TPI TBI types? Or should I even care if I am just hooking up to the ADAL connector.

Thanks for the help, I was thinking of trying to use a Moates cable and TunerCat, would this work for what I want it for? I looked around, and I could never find how to make my own cable, any links or diagrams would also help.

Thanks,
Bill

By the way, if Craig Moates is out there, your insight would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Bill

There is no freeware for scaning a CCC ecm with a laptop.
It uses a 2716 prom, which is not erasable, so you kill one with just one burn.

The CCC has been gone over repeatedly, and a quick search should answer any CCC question you have. There just aint much to the ecm in one.

I got the impression that winALDL had a config. for 84 truck, and some 83-86 car ECM's... is it just that there isn't a freeware for the LG4 / L69 ECM's??

Thanks for the info on the 2716's
