Still Can't link up to Craig Motes software??

When i get to ther screen where it says to press "1" until i hear a beep. This beep never happens and i am not able to exit the program i must press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to exit. I am running the program from dos, not using a boot disk, but selecting the restart in DOS mode when shutting down windows 95. I have tried pins "E" and "M" for data and neither work. The cable i am using is the one found on Craigs website.

I have now tried a boot disk, and changing the com port number in the options catagory.

I really need to get this car running i am moving on friday in 6 days and don't want to have to tow the car. Any help is greatly appreciated in getting this software to link up.

Reading this and your other thread, it almost sounds like you have an ECM problem or bad connection or something. You should get data anytime the key is "on". In fact, I can shut my car off with the computer still running, restart the motor and it communicates automatically and continues with data acquisition.

Craig's software won't help you get your car running. If it won't start, you've got other problems. I know this is obvious, but if I were you I wouldn't be worrying about collecting data at this point.

good luck!

My car runs perfectly sometimes and i was hoping that if i could read all the sensors i could get a good idea on what is wrong and trouble shoot the problem from there. I am not worried about collecting data and modifying my computer chip. I was thinking the same thing about my computer also I hope it is not shot.
thanks for your help

I was having the exacty same problems! EXACTLY!!! What OS are you running? IF it is ME, put W98 on the machine. If you still can not link up, do you have power supply hooked up to your cable? That was the problem I was having. I have to put W98 on my laptop, i can not boot up into dos mode with W ME from a w98 boot disk So i gotta format and put the new os on. Good luck and keep us posted on what works for you.

It ends up i had a realy stupid problem that i overlooked. I had two wires coming from my cable and i assumed(bad to do) black was the ground, because it usualy is in a car. However in home electronics black is usualy hot or in this case data. So i switched the wires around and it worked perfect
