486 Laptop for scanning questions

Guys, I have a chance to buy a 486 Compaq laptop for cheap. I have done a search and it seems that this will be sufficient for scanning, is this correct? I will just need software and a cable in order to use it as a scanner, is that all? Thanks in advance. P.S. These are the numbers for it. Will this be good enough?

400MB Hard drive
3.5' Floppy Disk
9" TFT Active Matrix Color Display
Trackball Mouse
Two Type 1 (or Type II) or one Type III
Monitor, Printer, Mouse ports
AC Adaptor
Windows 95
MS Office 97

As long as it has a serial port (not PS/2) you should be fine. I'm not sure what you mean by type I/II ports.

Oh yeah, make sure it has a good battery or a car adapter. You can't drive too far with an extension cord plugged into a wall.
