How do I create a 32k bin of....

all hex FF's? I need this file to initially flash a 29C256, so then I can put my 16k bin in the upper half. It would take forever to use the editor in the PP software.

I am using DOS version of PP, and Win98.

TIA, Mike

This is a shot in the dark but would it be possible to "read" a blank chip with pp2 and save that to a disk? I guess there is no harm in trying...

I don't know what version of PP you have but mine has a "fill buffer with all FF's" button. FYI.

Here is what I do.

In DOS....

copy /b old.bin+old.bin new.bin

Where:

oldbin=16K file name

newbin=created 32k size file.

Should work for you everytime. It does for me. Its just taking the 16K bin and putting it together twice. Good luck.

I am using DOS file version 3.70. I did not see an option to "fill buffer with all FFs". That would be nice.

I knew about the copy command, and tonight I just tried it. I took a 16k bin of all 0's, and combined it with my desired bin, to get a 32k bin. I tried to flash this new bin to a 29C256, and it didn't go. I hear rumblings of a bug with the PP and DOS software. The windows version would be nice, cost is 50bucks, plus maybe have to send in the programmer for a hardware mod.

Therefore am thinking I need to start with all FFs.

thanks for the file. it is usefull for erasing the flash chips. i think i got one to go. this is what i had to do.

created a 32k bin by using the copy command, doubling up my desired 16k bin. then i restarted my PC in DOS mode, used fileprom and flashed the chip. It seemed to work. My car started and idled fine. have yet to drive it, but that will be soon.
