Fried ECM???

This afternoon, right after work, went to the
parking lot, fired up IROC-Z and it didn't want to
idle right, lotsa hunting/surging and then it acted
like it was hitting the stall-saver. The SES light
illuminated....sorta. Blinked off and on like it was
a defective light. Car idled real high after that
and the damnable SES intermittently went off/on
flickering, not solid light it should.

Decided to go ahead and limp it home where I can
-safely- determine what was wrong. Pulled out the
handy-dandy Autozone ALDL key and tried to flash
codes. Eh heh...just as I suspected, it wouldn't
flash codes just flickered off/on very quickly and
intermittently but stayed on the whole time.

So on a hunch of
bad/fried ECM I quickly swapped
in the spare '165 ECM that I carry in-car at all
times in case of such things like this. Sure enough,
the ECM swap cleared up all those problems real
quick-like.

Since the ECM wasn't responding at all by flashing
any codes and the corresponding erratic SES light I
drew the conclusion that it was the ECM. About 2
days ago I had the SES light illuminate and the
engine stalled for like 1 second then caught and
acted fine. I figured something was gonna happen
sooner or later and I decided I'd let sh*t happen
and figure it out afterward (the luxury of having 2
cars).
The car acted fine immediately after I swapped ECMs
so I'm hoping that it was the problem.

Had a funny thing happen to me the other day.

While at my parents house I had the roof off my car and because I have been tuning the car quite a bit lately. I had the computer on the passengers floor.

I got in it and started it to do some testing. The car started fine, but the SYS light was on.

I just happen to look over on the floor at the ECM and there it sat in the blazing sun!

You guessed it. The sun had erased the chip! Put another in it and it ran perfect. Is it possible that may have happen to you?
