Injector constant?

Engine: 400 sbc .040 over
Transmission: 700r mod
Injector constant?
hey guys,finally getting some burning under the belt. I had 32 lb injectors installed. The constants that were in chip is 20. car ran rich(to be expected) .Burned new chip same info in all tables, but
changed injector constant to 32.(working with the 165 ecm).The motor did'nt like that at all(lean snap,low performance)and I drove the car a sufficient amount of time to re-learn. Burned another chip, changed the constant to 28,same info,car performed much better. My ? is other than changing the the constant what is the "proper" way to accomplish improving performance in this area given this info.?thanks in advance
