Are all speed density ECMs the same??
Are all speed density ECMs the same??
I have a speed density setup in my Camaro right now. I also have a 90 Cavalier with a speed density motor in it. I took the ECM out of the Cavalier and the piece that has the PROM chip and the circuit board (the blue piece - I think it's called the memcal but someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I know the PROMs are different, obviously, but could I take the Cavalier PROM out of the memcal and use my Camaro PROM in it, and then use that ECM in my Camaro? I'm asking because the person that burned my chip really soldered the hell out of my Camaro's PROM connection, and I want to start my own programming. Thanks.
sup camaro X,,,,,,, i belive that they are all the same. SD is much different from MAF. They Both use two differnt ways to measure air. I think a SD is a SD and A MF is a MF..( not a mother F, just a MAF

You cannot just take the chip out of a Cavalier Memcal and put a Camaro chip in because the limp home chips are different. The limp home chips are the chips next to the prom. The ECM will use the setting in the limp home chips if the PROM is bad or if a vital sensor fails. The limp home chips in a Cavalier are setup for a v6 so this obviously won’t work on a v8.

if im not mistaken , the limp home chips on a 730 are actually in the memcal, so you would jusat need to add your v8 730 memcal and it should be fine, especially if the pinouts on the cav and v8 730 are the same (and i bleive they are)

If you remove the PROM and the limp home chip from the Cavalier memcal and put the Camaro chips in your would have a Camaro memcal. There is no point at all in doing this because the memcal is removable. You just need to buy a new memcal made for your Camaro and put it in the ECM.
This is a memcal:

This is a memcal with the cover removed:

This is a pic I made that discribes the chips in the memcal

The 730 ECMS are all the same. The pinouts don't change by what car it is used in, they change by the ECM #. The Cavalier 730 ECM will work fine in your car, you just have to change the memcal.
