2732 to 29C256 My Second report
Troubles in paradise! having trouble, can't seem to tell the difference between programs. Hmmmm. disconect the tan spark advance cable, no change, Hmmmm. in fact it is running like cra* even though I haven't left the driveway.
change ECM to another 747 with a ZIF. Every thing back to normal.
Pull the CM adapter and wiggled a stock chip into the glued in adapter and reinstalled this ECM and no go won't even see the computer. (flashing SES light)
NOTE: did not have the flashing light with the CM adapter. But I did have thee AA at 004 thing on the BINS.
So the ECM is apatr on the desk and a volt meter shows no conductivity on one of the pins.
Holding the chip with the notch to your right , pins down, upper right pin.
The CM adapter works properly in my ECM with the ZIF socket but it kinda falls out and I can't get at the lever properly.
OK Craig, I built the cable to the switch today. A feat better left to some one with good eyes and steady hands. But with out leaving the driveway, it seems to work just fine but it wont stay put with the socket thingies I got from Radio Shack.

Did you figure out what was awry? My bet is that the glued-in socket is somehow not making good contact with the leaf spring. Maybe pry it out, put a slight bend on the pin in question, and try again? Hmm, I was kinda afraid of that.
Let me know what you find out...

I found it is real easy to remove the glued in socket, I just warmed it up a bit with one of the paint stripperd that look like a hair drier and it came right off.
I think if i gave all the pins a slight bend towards the middle it would solve any problem.
BUT.... I decided to install a low profile ZIF from Jameco.
managed to screwup things good.
Its a 28 pin socket which would be GREAT if you hang it off the end. Od course when you hold it upside down the pins are on the wrong end some how and I cut off the wrong end pins... No biggie.
Then I managed to mess up a few of the copper tracing lines on my board while pulling the pins from the old socket. Hmmm More work find the truely fine wire in this mess I have from mooving. OK well all better now and working again.
it will be a few days before I can get back to this.

You might want to solder the regular non-ZIF 24-pin socket in the ECM. But then I lose you as a beta-tester, you go the way of Bruce!
Fear not I have a stack of 747s Tsting will continue.
But I believe the low profile ZIF socket is the way to go.
I think it clamps tighter, and the handle would clear your adapter if I was smart enough to clip the proper end pins.

How long are you running that ribben cable for the stich? No problems with the ecm burping? I've been wondering how the hell I would do switching on the fly with just myself in the car and the ecm on the floor! I'm about to relocate the whole ecm but it would be a lot nicer if I could run that switch to the center counsole (18"). Recently by myself I've just been testing it with only one calibration, no on the fly tuning unless I can grab somebody and stick them in my car with their hands on the switch.
I bought a 5 foot ribon cable and trimmed it to 6 leads.
I have NOT left the driveway with it yet but so far it seems to work. I had so much other troubles, mostly self inflicted, that I ran out of time to really try it out on the road. Not to mention, I have really not mastered the tuning thing yet. I wish I was better at this whole thing to give a better report but what you see is what I have found.
