fan temps?

Where should I run my fans for max cooling? I have noticed that my car runs really cool on the freeway ( 165-190) never any hotter. I replaced my engine & the only changes were my AFR 190 heads, removal of the header wrap, and a zz3 cam. Now, when i hit stop and go traffic, My Z run's really hot! 240ish and the temp will climb i'm sure if i do not get out on the open road to cool her down. So where is it best to set my fan's? Also, how can i check the fans to make sure both operate?

Thank YOU!

Interesting, I set both fans for the lowest temp possible and they did not turn on? I messed with both on/off temp and nothing at the lowest poss. temp. Then I removed the prom, the drivers side fan turned on???

Anyone know wtHeck is going on???

anyone who can help, I :hail: you

Well, not for sure this will help, but.....I'm used to vettes-on the early models one fan was controlled by the ecm and the second fan was controlled by a seperate "fan switch" in the head to the water jacket. It's a ground on switch. Later models both fans are ecm controlled.
So it depends on year and code.
If the driver side fan turns on then the relay for it is OK. The pass. side fan should have a seperate relay. Try to jumper direct to the fan, then at the relay to see where it's losing current.
But, yea, if the driver side works in "limp home" then a program change should enable it....If you jumper the a and b pins on aldl and turn on the key-do one or both come on then?
Also there should be a fusible link for each fan-something else to check!
