Why do 94+ Camaro's have a MAF and a MAP? Do these computers have VE tables and MAF scalar tables then? What is the benefit of having both? Is it to get a more accurate fuel mixture?

I was told that they run off of the MAF unless something goes wrong with that system, then it failsafes to the MAP system.

That, and
there was at one time some doubt about when OBDII was going to be implimented. So they were at one timing gearing up for a earlier intro then 96. Some 94-96 applications have both OBDI and OBD II stuff in them.

In the OBDII world the PCM, must be able to verify things mush better then the OBD! stuff so the MAP is used to verify the MAF readings are about right. Well at least in theory. Some guys have 0'd out the MAP tables and noticed no change in the way the car runs.

On a 95 8051 we converted it to MAP only and there was a slight gain, but it took lots of work. We didn't try at the time to rehash the MAF scalers and table. Do it wasn't a completely fair comparison.

I just made a lot of tests running my 1988 MAF+MAP A-body car in MAF only, MAP only and MAF&MAP with different masks. You can read it at V6 forum/ Sticky: "Attention ALL V6...".
