TunerCat or WinBin? whats better?

Don't worry I read the FAQ's and articles. I have made some bids on the equipment I need to start burning my own EPROMs but was wondering if I should just use WinBin for free or is TunerCat (that costs money) a better application for burning EPROMs for ECM's?

Or is there a better program out there I dont know about?

What's your guys opinion on these programs and there pro's and con's?

Obviously, for free, winbin works wonders. But, for $90, TC does wonders too. There is also GMEpro which is also cheap for what it does, like TC. Simply put, you can't go wrong but don't expect the free software to be better or have support from its writer, just as the previous post mentioned. I would say for your own personal stuff, pay for an editor. For your friends that don't want to spend any money for the def file you don't have, use winbin.

Unless Tunercat has changed something since my version (its possible), it doesnt update the checksum. I also found it to be unstable at times with runtime errors, but never with winbin. Other than that, they're basically similar except for the aforementioned 'support' issues and one is free.

TC is by far my favorite. It does update the checksum and if you get/try the tdf file editor you can have it so that the checksum is disabled (for when I use the 8 in 1 adaptor). For anybody that's serious about tuning, TC is the shortcut and the tdf file editor software is by far the best combo to date.
The only time TC get's runtime errors are if you have an outdated formlib.tff file and you have a newer *.tdf file.
The only troubles I've had with TC is that it likes to run on a laptop with more RAM and a faster HD. The processor speed doesn't matter much but sometimes I can have a coffee and donut just waiting for the darn spark table or constants list to come up. Even then, the scrolling is slow as a troll. Fast computer and you're serious about tuning (not just get is close), I say splerge for TC. Minimal laptop and short on cash, go with the winbin so long as your ecm is supported and/or you don't mind spending some time making your own definition file up from scratch. I guess it's like everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

Thanks for the info JP, I'll look into that. I havent updated any of it in a long time, so I'm not surprised it does checksums now. It ran fine on my 150mhz computer (tiny HD, fair ram) though so I dunno why it'd be slow on your computer, never was slow for me always was pretty quick.
Forgot to mention tunercat also can compare 2 bin files, I've found that to be quite valuable at times. AFAIK winbin cant do that.

Yes it does. I use it all the time to update the checksum for my bbin generated in source code. It's been doing for over a year.
