A little lost on the $32B vs. $6E bins

I have an 88 350 TPI (165 ECM $32B). I've been reading alot about just using the $6E Definition file and the ARAP.bin (or any stock $6E bin for that matter). Besides the 9th injector, what else is different?

Although both the 88 and 89 use the same ECM (165), where does the $32B and $6E come into play and how is it different. Is it how the ECM reads the chip, or is it solely the EPROM itself? Are there different tables between the two? How would the ECM figure it out?

I've read that you can program an ARAP.bin, plug it in an 88 (or 87 for that matter I guess), and it'll run ... better. Is it that simple?

Yes, an 89 ARAP bin is a direct swap for an 86-88 bin. However make sure you turn off the VATS and change the fan switch operation. The code is a little more defined and refined in the 89 version, that's all.

So basically, the code on the EPROM is more than just data. It's tables and data that moreless tell the ECM what to do .. right?

I was just wondering because I see the list of tables for a $32 cal prom and a $6e and the $6e has tons more calibration options to play with. I just wasn't sure how the ECM "read" the chip. Looks as if there's a lot more to it than just data on those EPROMs then. Sweet deal.

I'm using TunerCat and would love to check out the differences between an 88 and 89 car, but I suppose I'll use WinBin for comparison purposes since I don't have the $32B def file.
