preparing to do my own PROM, ? and feedback

I have read the great article "Programming PROMs for your Thirdgen Fuel Injected F-Body: Part I Introduction" and have a few questions. From what I have heard and based on my vehicle (the testbed for my first will be an S10 Blazer, not an F body) this is my tentative plan of attack:
TunerCat editor & disassembler
TransTronics pocket programmer

My next question is this: I have some aftermarket chip in my ECM right now, and it has the memcal adapter. However, I was wondering if anyone could direct me to the information regarding my chip and if I could use an EEPROM instead of having to deal with the UV eraser. What would be the appropriate EEPROM chip?
My ECM is labeled as follows:
serv no. 16197427 BNRT
86BNRTK643337280

The chip on the MEMCAL adapter is labeled as follows:
CY27C512
90WC
9714
105246

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Okay, some quick browsing of another post netted Craig Moates saying the following:
...29C512, the EEPROM/Flash counterpart to a 27C512...
. Did anyone confirm the 28 or 32 pin count on these chips (guess I can look again tonight to verify mine)? Don't those newbies who don't dig deep enough to find the answers really annoy you?
