ARAP bin, VATS disable etc...
Engine is a '87 L98. Ported iron L98 heads, cleaned up stock TPI intake, ported plenum, headers with a pretty free-flowing exhaust.
I'm finally getting around to ditching the '870 for a '165 ECM. A guy I know is going to burn me a chip to get me going until I can get the time to start really tuning and burning my own.
I'm going with the ARAP bin. I know I'll need to have him disable VATS. I also want to lower the fan cut on temp to @ 175 or so. At the same time, I will ask him to change the injector constant for 24lb injectors, since I may be getting a really good deal on some cleaned and flowed '92 LT1 ( Vette ) injectors. I talked to Rich at Cruzin Performance, and he told me these were a '2nd design' and are not prone to failure like the earlier Multi Tecs.
IS there anything else I'm missing? I'll be ordering a ZIF adapter from C.Moates, as well as a few chips.
The car will stay in it's current engine tune until after I finish my T5 swap. At that time, I'm sure I'll have to deal with changing to the Vette Manual tranny bin as well.
I probably won't start really 'fine tuning' the car until after I get the ZZ4 cam I have lined up, swapped in.
With this fairly mild combo, after some tuning, and with some traction, I hope to be able to eek some mid 13's out of the car with the WC T5 and some 3.42's , along with a Torsen take off from SLP.
I really don't think I'm pushing my expectations...hell, the car ran 14.6 with NO traction, and stock manifolds, and it's running ALOT better than it was since I've changed the intake gasket, added good wires etc.
As of now, I'm getting 15-17 mpg with a mix of stop and go and some highway driving, and I'm sure the car has to be running a bit rich since the ECM thinks it has 19lb injectors, when in all actuality they are 22 pounders. Now I did notice a good increase in MPG after the addition of headers....besides the normal benefits, I would think the more free-flowing exhaust probably helped the rich condition a bit as well.
For now, I am slightly compensating for the bigger injectors with a lower fuel pressure setting, but I know it's just a band-aid..the only true fix is getting the 165 installed and the correct chip info burned.
Any pointers / suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
