I'll never tell You have to leave some shread of mystery left around the Firehawks

No one will ever know either unless another Firehawk owner tells you because SLP lost all the info in the fire they had a few years back...

Boy, now don't I feel dumb. All this time I thought this was a board for sharing information , not saying you've got it and going .

Actually the PROM is in my car about 2 hours away and I don't have the hardware to read the chip and put it on my PC anyway...

No, you need an actual reader/burner like the pocket programmer 2. Unless you feel like doing some source coding and removing the ecm, tapping into one of the voltage outputs like the IAC and having the rom and eeprom dumped to a serial port. I'm pretty confident when I say the slp eprom isn't going to be the same as the firehawk eprom. The firehawk is a monster of a street motor and it was speed density so running an "off the shelf" eprom would have been a bad idea. I bet it's nothing too special since it was done back in 90 but it'll still be cool to look at. I just hope this can be done through e-mail so some ********* don't go selling "firehawk" eproms on ebay. The same guys that did that also ruined it for the rest of us when the BCC lookup page went down. Then there was the problem with diacoms hardware being released (still need software ), let's not forget the whole wideband 02 project that got out of hand. Too many people trying to make a quick buck off of other peoples work. So if this could be kept to e-mail I think it might be best. That way you KNOW who is responsible. Boy does this stuff erk me. Makes me want to go on a couple road trips and literally bitch slap the people responsible.

WTF?

Don't forget, my ALDL software will allow you to download your BIN through the ALDL as easy as cake. Just need a 2-transistor / AKM cable. You don't need a burner or anything like that.

I thought you still needed to burn the eprom to ouput the bin through the the aldl? That must have just been for the 7747 and 8746.

It would be nice to see what all they did in the bin for the firehawks.

Nah, you should be able to download the BIN through the ALDL for any TPI setup 86-93. Then you can look at it, mod it, burn it to a chip, however you want to do it.

Anyone have a Firehawk BIN they'd be willing to share?

It IS possible that the ALDL-based PROM dump function could have been altered/disabled by SLP or whoever in the PROM code. It'd be worth a try though.

I've been holding out on replying to this but heck ... why not ...

I really don't care. The firehawk bin will be nothing special. The thing here is that people hold the thirdgen firehawk in high esteem (and rightfully so). But, because of this, they think that the programming on that car might be a magic bullet that might make their car a supercar. Nope. Ain't going to happen. There will be nothing special about that bin file ... nothing.

If you are lucky - maybe ... and I say MAYBE ... SLP changed the VE curves to match their combo. Who cares. Everyone running speed density will need to do this anyhow. Regarding the spark curves ... the stock vette spark curves are really aggressive and I can pretty much guarantee that the SLP curves won't be much different than those ... maybe LESS aggressive. What else is left? PE parameters? Who cares. It's not like you could plug and play those anyhow. Any PE values will always be wrong until you get some wide band dyno tuning.

Firehawk bins are not magic bullets. You would be MUCH better off using your own magic bullet.

Who are you directing your reply towards? I don't think any of the members that have replied (including myself) consider this to be anything special. We are just interested in seeing exactly what SLP did to make that motor so strong. Keep in mind that the motor was making a lot more power than the vette that year. Comparing is part of the hobby. While most people pop the hoods to show off, I like to show off eproms .

Personally I don't expect it to be that great either, I mean it's a 11 year old configuration after all and it was 50 state legal. I plan on having my Firehawk fully dyno tuned and new programing done on it done by Performance Assoc. in LA to make it even stronger. I'll keep the original chip intact though so maybe then I will post it. My friend who has Firehawk #026 had the same done to his hawk and picked up 50+HP...

John - relax dude. I wasn't directing my response toward anyone in particular. I was using 'they', 'you', etc. as a general 'other than me' response.

Some people (i.e. other than me - lol) still don't understand PROM programming to the entent that there is no magic bullet. I can guarantee you that some people are thinking 'WOW! That firehawk bin would be the bomb! My car would be crazy fast if I had that bin in my car!' I just want to get across that if anybody is thinking that then they are totally kidding themself.

Now - with all of that said - there is one really good use for the firehawk bin. IMHO - I think that BIN would be a great place to start for a fully modified 350ci+ F-Body that has had a T56 installed. But, at the same time - the 305 manual bin is ALSO a great place to start ... and, in a lot of cases, a better place to start than the firehawk bin.

I didn't even think about the whole 355 TPI T56 thing, would definatly be a good idea if a similar cam and same heads were being used. Then again the tri-y exhaust probably changes a few things.
I was plenty relaxed, I was just confused with where you got the impression that somebody was implying a magic bullet. It's probably true that somebody would grab the bin and sell it on ebay .
Oh, and I WAS relaxed until you spelled my name wrong . It's J O N, in every sig including my first reply to this thread . Traxi[ohn], hehe
