Mysterious code 42 ?!?!
So I'm out cruisin having a good ole time. While I'm going around a cloverleaf on the highway the engine bogs real hard and the SES light comes on (7747 here).
So I click to the Error Codes tab on WinALDL and the only code in there is code 42 EST. WTF?
I've had the battery disconnected since the last time I set the timing so I'm sure that it was this occurance that set the light off.
After the code was set, the light stayed on and the engine continued to run badly...like there was no SA.
I pulled over and shut the engine down. Waited a sec, and fired it back up. The SES light was off and everything ran like before. I guess once the code was set the ECM stopped using the SA tables in the PROM.
I got this from my ARJU hack...
I get the 450 rpm limit but after that the rest means nothing to me.
Maybe I need to check the EST connector?

Code:
;---------------------------------------------
; ERROR 42
; EST MONITOR
;---------------------------------------------
LD546 FCB 4 ; 450 RPM limit,
LD547 FCB 0 ; Num PA1 cnt's for error
LD548 FCB 4 ; Num of EST faults for 42A
LD549 FCB 4 ; Num of EST faults for 42B
;--------------------------------------------- Maybe I need to check the EST connector?

Try another chip.
Yes, the actual prom.
I've seen 747s, and 148s pop a 42 intermittently.
Actually 4 times.
I think on the 747 I also disabled the 42 flag.

I'll do that.
I know some of the junkyard chips I have will erase and program fine...but sometimes they will throw a code 51. The chip "looses contact" with the ECM...that's no fun in traffic.

I gave up using junkyard chips for that and the sometimes hassle of getting them to erase.
