Changing idle speed?

I need to raise my idle in $6E code.

When I change the "Idle rpm vs coolant temp" table should I do the whole "minimum air and TPS" adjustment for the new idle speed?

and if so what minimum air should I set? same as in PROM?

What are your IAC counts now?.
What's you idle rpm, and what do you want it to be?.

Yes, you can just set the commanded RPM higher, but then you have the IAC totally controlling the idle speed.

I'd suggest setting the idle as the manual suggests, and then just raising the speed just enough from there to have a somewhat stable idle, and then note that rpm. Then set the tables for about that idle speed. Then SLIGHTLY play with the min idle speed, and commanded speeds til you get it the way you want.

Probably gonna have to play with the mixture some also. And that means in the MAF tables.

Have set idle speed to 750 rpm in PROM
IAC 39 steps (around)
BLM 115
MAF 12 gr/sek

I'll set idle speed on throttle blades and readjust TPS and PROM after that.....

Thanks/N.

If your at 750 and 39 steps, I'd say open the butterflies a touch, and try to get the count down to 15 or less.

With your BL at 115, you also might take a lil fuel out.

The bigger the cam, the less you want to depend on the IAC to control your idle. Just the slightest miss, and the rpm can just and that will cause a touch of reversion, and if your at all off on your MAF table, that can mean a stall.

Thanks Grumpy, thats what I wanted to know.

I'll adjust the blades a little to see if I can get the steps to around 15.

My BLM is now 124 at idle so I guess its time to take her out on the road and get some readings.......

Sounds like the trouble I was having with $6e twords the end. Swapped to $8D now.

So IAC steps shoudl be around 15.. Great tip!

OK.....

After I adjust the blades to hit around IAC 15 steps should I readjust the TPS?

Just so long as it's reasonable.
I generaly like it under .42, so that the WOT TPS stays reasonable too.
Kind of a ying, and yang thing going on.

I have my idle set to 850 in the prom and though I had the IAC reset and TB set up to idle where I want it to. Worked ok for a short time, but now I have a very high idle (around 1600) in park and a big surge on a warm startup. I have not found any recent vac. leaks. First thing in the morning it starts up and idles great until I shut it off and restart it warm. What is the "IAC Park Position" under the ECM Constants in TC? It is set at 160 counts right now. What exactly are the counts?

The IAC counts are "steps".

If IAC "steps" are 0 the IAC is fully out and isnt letting any "x-tra" air into the engine.

If IAC is 160 (is this max?) the IAC is fully open and letting alot of air into the engine and raising the idle......

My is also set at 160 steps........

Try to clean the IAC.

Under "ECM Constants" the "IAC Park Position" is set to 160 (so fully closed, right?) but under the "IAC Warm Park Position Vs. Coolant Temp", it is from 10 to 5 steps (almost wide open). So which setting does the ECM go by and when?

160 steps are fully open, and I think that is the IAC "PARK" position not when you have the transmission in P.

10-5 steps are almost fully closed..... It should be around 15 steps at idle.........
