Needham EMP21 programmer

I came across a Needham EMP21 programmer and wondered if anyone out there is familiar with setting it up(drivers etc). I downloaded the software from Needhams, but I don't know if I need anything else. Bill

I have an EMP30, and it works great (I am using XP). Just run the install, hook it to your parallel port and it should go. It probably won't work with a USB printer port though, it wants actual hardware to write to.

I use an EMP 20 without problems. I think the 21 is a newer version that connects to the USB port, you can check on their website. I use their dos software.

Programming procedure is

Connect to computer

fit correct 'family module' 01A in most cases

run software and it will connect to programmer

select device eg atmel 29c256 (it says what family module to fit)

enter your bin file name and location

click on 'load file'

click on 'buffer editor' if you want to check if bin has loaded

click on 'program device'

I'm using a EMP-20 programmer, it's also older then your 21 but this is a very good machine. I think it sold around $400 when new. The EMP-20 is restricted to Windows 95 or 98 and runs in a DOS window, no big deal. When buring 29C256's I used family module 01A, burning 29F040's I used module 22A.

You have a good machine, hold on to it. Wish I had the newer model.
