Announcing GMECM Edit v2.0!

Hello again, guys-

I've just <a href = "http://gmecmedit.markmansur.com/">uploaded GMECM Edit version 2.0</a>. Those who gave previous versions a try will be very impressed with the improvements. Those who didn't give previous versions a try but are still using WinBin should no longer have a reason to use WinBin. =) (And if you're thinking of buying Tunercat, you might want to wait and give this a try). As Usual, GMECM Edit is and always will be free.

Please give it a shot! As stated <a href = "https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=164388">before (in a previous thread)</a> I plan on continuing support and improvement of this software for as long as I, myself use it. I want to make it work for everyone, so help me out!

<p align="left"><b>Whats new in version 2.0:</b></p>

<li>Table editing functions for applying factors/offsets to cells, rows, columns, or the entire table</li>

the downloads section of my site above has some ECU's (including one for the 7730). Download and load it into the editor. You'll also need the bin to match, which is not available on my site. www.diy-efi.org is a good place for this kind of thing.

lookin good. My eyes are hungry for some kind of graph with the spark table. I guess I'm too used to WinBin. The graph always helped me visualize DFCO, WOT, cruise and such...

this looks great. I am just starting off burning my own proms. This latest version looks really slick and easy to understand. Thanks for all the great work you are doing to help totally lost causes like me find our way around.

Sweeeeet, nice work man :hail:

I can't wait to see later versions with graphing support. One thing that would be nice to add would be a window that could be opened to display the highlighted item in the constants menu instead on double clicking on each item. Or a window like Tunercat uses to show constants. Or be able to choose one of the two methods. Anything instead of having to clutter the work space with little constants windows. Also can't wait until you add item description (additional info) support.

Keep up the awesome work

I could certainly offer this alternative, however, I'm unsure how cluttering a single window with multiple constants is different than the current functionality (in that you can open as many constants you want, and even better, arrange them how you please).

I was thinking about offering the option to open the selected constant in the same constant window (such as that in version 1.01, where it forced on the user =). How 'bout that?

I'm certainly thinking seriously about going in some very cool directions, including native prom burning, emulation, and data logging ...

these, however, would be miles down the road (so to speak). im only one guy, and at the moment I'm focused perfecting this part of it all! ;-)

in fact, there are some good sources for ecu's on these boards. feel free to search. sorry i can't help you out more.

it is developed on XP, so yes, it works great. As for your burner, no idea. Check with the manufacturer to see if their software works with XP.

time on table specifies how long the light stays illuminated at the specified conditions.

on table specifies at what point the light actually illumantes.

off table specifies the conditions that the light turns off. most of the shift light related items are self explanitory. what i'm uncertain of is the delay modifier (constant), though I might guess what it does.

I just uploaded Version 2.01. Lots of fixes and improvements:

gmecmedit.markmansur.com

Whats new:

- fixed improper checksum saving routine - checksum was calc'ed correctly, but saved incorrectly.
- fixed file open/save dialog box function - now cancelling choice does not return a filepath
- Fixed bug where file extension was not being added if user did not append it themselves upon saving.
- Fixed bug where app immediately closes in win98 when saving-as without and extension.
- Fixed crash when handling drag & dropped layout file.
- fixed bug where table didn't always get focus when table editor became active.
- fixed bug where when user is actively editing a cell and the table loses focus, the edit does not complete.
- added "fill w/ Value" to table editor functions
- added Track Bar (Slider) to constant editor - a la TunerC*t.
- added workspace windows-refresh after applying preference changes.
- added bin stacker resizing (required re-arrangement of interface).
- added size error-checking to Bin Stacker layout parameters.
- added status bar to bin stacker for reference of block memlocs and bin offsets
- added Ford bin support in the Bin Stacker at the request of Mr. Moates (56k bins, offset $2000)
- added current cell cursor when table loses focus (good for using table functions so you know what cell you've selected).

Very nice for a free editor.

Unfortunatly thiers no graphing function which comes in supeeeeeeer handy, and i think is one of the best things tunercat has going for it!

Would this result in a burned prom that wouldn't work?

I have been using v2.0 for the last couple of days and kept on burning chips that wouldn't work.

Last night I used WinBin and that worked. I came online today to do some research and saw this post again and read your bug fixes. Would this bug have been the cause of my problems? I will try v2.01 tonight but I am curious.

If I burnt a chip with unaltered bin it worked, as soon as I changed 1 thing a saved the bin with the new checksum, the chip wouldn't work! It was frustrating to say the least but now I am hopefull that this is the issue!

I love the software but I wish I could see the actual maps charted. On my slower laptop it's bad enough trying to use a few programs let alone having to copy and paste into excel just to verify the VE maps or timing tables look correct.
I sure hope the next release has the graphing. It would be no doubt the icing on the cake.
-edit- I'd also love to see some sort of interpolation "smooth" feature for the VE or spark maps. Heck, any of the arrays would be nice to inerpolate points imbetween. Keep up the good work and I understand the time you've put into this and aren't expecting anything more

Mangus,
Your software is wonderful. I've just rehashed a V6 bin from an '808 to run a 4 cylinder SOHC engine that I want some of the V6 (eg KS) features on. The compare and copy function is a fantastic innovation- loading the 4 cylinder maps into the V6 tables, etc. Glad to see you've fixed the checksum problem- I was switching the BIN to Winbin after GMECMEdit to get a correct checksum.
Thanks again.

resize the main window (or even resize the lists that you do see). This will cause all the lists to be seen.

I'm trying to hunt this bug down, and its a sneaky one ...

Yessir, interpolation is on the list of "Things to do" too. I *am* working on graphing. I'm trying to find the best solution (i.e. one that allows you to drag points in real-time a la T*n*rC*t).

Graphing/Plotting controls are not trivial to code up (when you're not using MFC/VB/ATL). =)

The ECU info is dumped into the Constants, Flags and Tables menus but nothing else pops up.

I've tried to compare 2 BINs and I've tried using several different ECU and BIN configs.

All I see is the ECU data.
No BIN data is shown and I have no way to make changes.

Am I doing something wrong . . . again?!

EDIT: I went back to using Edit V1.0. Still works for me.
This might sound silly, but did you *double-click* an item in one of the lists?

yeah, when i open it, i get the list on the left, and i have to double click on an item to open the data for it.

BTW, i just started out with burning, and i am using this program, and it is working out great for me!

Any support in the works for the 749 ECM? I just converted to the Sy/Ty setup to run with my supercharger. I'd really like a better interface then the PromGrammer.

Hey is there anyway to include this with your program?

There are tons of ECU's out there. Find on for your ECM and you have what you need. The program is designed to be universal. In fact, there's no reason why it can't support F*rd ECM's, provided someone puts together an ECU for it.

What would I be adding?

Any user can add/change whatever they want. It doesn't need anything special in GMECM Edit itself ... just that you know what offsets to change and what math to do. Create yoiur own Item for it within GMECM Edit, and edit it! =)

GMECM Edit version 2.05 now available!

I just uploaded GMECM Edit version 2.05 to:
http://gmecmedit.markmansur.com/

Whats new in this version:

- Added "Item Summary". See list of items, their calc/hex values, locations, etc in a list-view. Sort/Re-order columns. Powerful! Can be shown/hidden by pressing F7. Great for freeing up precious work space. Also, you can use this list instead of the normal item list.
- ECU Item Info/Help field implemented, along with window for viewing (quick key: F10). First couple of Constants, Flags, and Tables in included 6ev010.ecu have example comments.
- Double Clicking a cell shows edit/caret.
- Pressing escape no longer closes editors.
- Pressing escape while editing a table cell returns cell to previous value.
- Added "Recent Bins" and "Recent ECUs" to File & ECU menus.
- Added error checking in bin stacker (if bins are skipped, you will be informed)
- Fixed bug in bin stacker where immediate layout isn't saved when "Append" is pressed causing potentially incorrect stack.
- Added ability to hide/show item lists. Can be toggled from view menu, or by pressing F6. Great for freeing up precious work space!
- Quick Key for editing ECU Item information moved from F1 to F2.
- Made all tool/list windows "toggle-able" by pressing their respective quick keys. Makes it easier to show/hide them.
- Preferences dialog box now consists of property sheets. Cleaner layout, etc. (Especially as more options are added).
- Changed all "Default ECU" stuff to "Load Last ECU". Concept of default ECU made less sense.
