? about memcal

OK< so I got my programmer back, it works finaly, and I burned a few chips last night to see if it really does work. anyway, I ordered the adapters from craig moates for the memcal, but here is the question. I had a hypertech chip in the car when I bought it, and when I took it out I was expecting to be able to just pull the old chip out and put in my new one, not the case, the chip was soldered. so I tried to de-solder it, but needless to say screwed it up bad. called my parts guy, should have a new 89 memcal tomorow ($72 later), but here is the question....

when I get the adapter from Craig, do I still need to remove the stock chip from the memcal? or do I plug in my new chip where it goes on the adapter, and then just plug the entire new memcal into the side?.... looks to me like the pins go into every hole except the ones under the chip, so does that mean I don't need to try my luck again??

sorrr if that is a stupid question, but I looked in Traxion's intro atricle and it doesnt really clarify that.... thanks for the answer in advance.

Just plug your memcal onto the pins that stick out of the adapter (The end opposite the PROM), then plug the adapter into the socket where the memcal was in the computer. You're essentially using everything on the memcal EXCEPT the PROM.

You may have to remove the (blue?) cover on the memcal in order for everything to fit inside the ECM case.

I think Craig Motes has some pictures on his site showing how everything should fit together.
