Totally Hosed - Programming

Newly programmed chips do not work. None of them!

I am using a EMP-20 Prom Burner, 29C256 Chips and several stock and aftermarket BIN files. I have even saved the BIN file from the current Hypertech chip (that works) and tried to clone it to the new 29C256 Chip.

I've doubled the bin to fill up both 16k addresses and I've loaded the original 16k BIN into the upper address. NOTHING! None of the chips ever work. I verify that the data is burned to the chip and matches the buffer data. Just can't get the car to start with the new chips. I'm using Moates G3 adapter.

Can anyone shed some light on this nightmare?

Thanks!!

If the data verifies to the chip, then something is wrong in your setup. Not familiar with that burner, but all you need to do is change the start address to 4000 and burn the normal 16k bin.

OK, I finally took the chips I had been programming and put them into the original HyperTech memcal. They work fine in there - the problem has to be in the Moates memcal adapter. I've sent him a message regarding the chip placement, jumpers and switch settings. The adapter takes a chip that holds 16 variations of a bin and then allows you to switch between them without taking out the chip.

if you're using a 29F040 in Moates' adapter, plug it in with the #1 pin (the notch) towards the outside of the adapter and be sure BOTH jumpers are set in the 29F040 position.

If you're using a 29C256, be sure the the #1 pin is facing to the outside of the adapter, but that the chip is all the way towards the *inside* of the adapter ( in other words, the the empty spaces in the ZIF will be on the outside). Then make sure both jumpers are in the 29C256 position.

Also be sure the bin switch is sitting in a position that contains a bin (in the case of a 29C256, be sure its in the 0th position - though I don't think it matters in that case).
