Diacom will not connect in ALDL
Diacom will not connect in ALDL
I have an 89 GTA with a L98 that is MAF. I am trying to get the Diacom to connect with no luck. I can get it to connect in Diagnostic mode with the 91006 adapter and the 91007 adapter but it will not go into ALDL mode. I know I am supposed to use the 91006 adapter but I just can’t get it to work. How ever it did connect to ALDL a couple times with the 91007 adapter but I can’t get that to work now.
Has anyone got this to work? If so how are you doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Scott

Do you get it to link up at all? Or does it just sit there saying "LINKING" but nothing happens.
Make sure you are running in pure DOS mode and not a "Window" opened up in Windows ... it won't work for linking (you can use if for translating, but not linking...Diacom needs complete control of the Parallel Port.
Diacom works best on a laptop with MS-DOS, or Windows 3.1, W95 or W98 in "DOS MODE". I don't know anyone that has gotten it to work in WME or XP...hopefully someone will pipe up if they have.
Lastly, review your settings in the "Configure Menu". I found my "Vehicle Port" had to be set to LPT2, while the "Printer Port" was LPT1.
Hope this helps.

I will second what glenn said, u may just have to play with your settings and see which ones will work with your laptop... Word to the wise, try playing with the cable where it connects to the pc at in a mode u know it has communicated normally in before.. I went thru this and ended up being that my cable was bad(the one from diacom) and i could play with it and hold it correctly it would work most of the time, or some of the time
just wanring u if nothign else works out for u

I wish Diacom had just made a nice one piece unit - I even offered to pay for one if they made it but refused and will not sell me a second end so I coud solder the two together. The only choice I have is to wait for someone to sell one cheaply on e-bay and just solder the cables together myself.

Then it's the cable. If it links to your buddies SD car using the standard ECM cable, and you already said that you are using the special TPI cable 91006, then it has to be the cables where they meet.
Fiddle with them as 3.8 TransAM says. It is the most common problem when you know it will work on someone elses car.
If you continue to have problem with the 91006 cable, contact Rinda and insist on a new 91006 cable. Man I hate those two piece cables.
