Found the reason for my huge power loss?? Could it be!

Yeah, I am still a n00b when tuning, I'm still reading, usually for hours and hours a day at work a few times a week. And this dang HSR is getting to me in terms of no power... at least until I read this.

Ok, this is gonna sound ludicrous, but my base timing with the plug connected is 14*. I am using the arap.bin. And my spark advance goes all the way up to 48*.

Grumpy mentioned on 3-24-2001

Ya, and in Dissy applications you need to be real careful running up there. That's part of the reason for DIS, lessens the chance of cross firing. remember cylinder to cylinder firing happens ever 45d so you can get the spark jumping to the wrong cylinder. Also there is a max d timing setting.
hmmmm... am I maybe getting nearly no spark or spark to the wrong cylinders around 3500 RPM where I seem to have absolutely no power my max spark advance is set to 41.xx* and that comes in around 3500-3600 rpm? I think that we may have found the answer to this one.....

Am I correct? Just gimme a little reassurance. If I'm wrong, tell me that I am.

From your first post, if you are checking the timing with the plug connected (bypass closed), then most likely you do not have enough timing.

Open the bypass, set the distributor to give 6 deg BTDC (with a light), then set your bin inital timing to 6 deg BTDC. Now work on your SA tables.

RBob, from memory, I thought that the with the connector plugged in that the 6BTDC* was about 10* or so. If I am right, then my initial is about 10* and I am using the arap.bin, and we all know how agressive those spark tables are. However... at this time I am getting no spark knock. ONLY when I stomp it from a 1st gear roll do I get any kind of knock. I get 5 counts at LV8 of 90-100ish I think, after that even at WOT I get no knock. I do register the occasional knock at cruise but maybe only 4 or 5 on a 20 mile journey. I really don't get it. The only thing really that I changed from last year was the intake manifold and had the heads ported. I used to get hellacious spark knock... maybe the plugs were gapped too much.

What connector plugged in? If the bypass then no. Open the bypass, set the initial (base) distributor timing, and set the bin initial to the same value.

If you are runnning a scanner in 8192 mode then that also adds timing.
