Everybody is speaking greek to me!!!
O.K. for starters. I have an 89 IROC 5.7 TPI. Now I've looked over alot of these posts and all I see is everyone speaking greek ( i.e. WOT,PE,AFR...ect)
Please help this 32 year old back-yard mechanic undersand this terminology?
Where can I pick up the stuff to re-program a chip? And where can I get blank chips?
Reading some of the posts, I see that almost everyone has gotten rid of the 350 motor for something else. Is there somethig wrong with the 350? Or can I get some good HP's from it, for I don't have the money for a bigger RAT Motor.
I recently read in GM High-Tech Performance that I could get 414 HP (333 RWHP) by switching to a Holly Stealth Ram set up. Should that be a way to go?
Everyone is well knowleged in all of this, I don't do to bad on things but when in comes to dealing with the car's computer, I'm an idiot!! I need all the help I can get!
Someone....anyone, Please make me smart in this aspect of the Fuel Injected Car.

Hoping someday Carb's will be King again....LOL

O.K. before I get booted out for not checking. I found the article by Trax about re-programing the PROM. But I know I'll have some questions after I print it out and read it.
Please, Don't be mad at me, I'm still learning.

Like any tech talk, or foreign language it'll come to you, lots of the terms start to make sense after just a little while.
Xtronics has a proven track record of supplying programmers and excellent customer service. And with a number of guys using their stuff, on line help usually is easy to find. For tuning software www.Tunercat.com is another vendor that has been good. Chips, often you can get a good deal on used ones on ebay.
There are dynos, and there are dynos.
The current fade are the chassis ones.
But, like all fades, they have some oddities.
Most all are using inertia wheels, and do the load measuring for 4-5 secs and extrapolate the HP from that sample time. Trouble is the it can be terribly misleading. Stay tuned, I going to be doing a post about testing. But, in short con't be surprised by inflated numbers.
Start slow, take notes, and ask guestions. It all gets clear after a while.
Ya, carbs, like doing the jetting on an IR manifold with webers is easy.

Of course, I wasn't only meaning just that add on, there was going to be added: TFS G1 heads, Comp Cam 218/228 @ .050-inch lift, 24lb SVO injectors, modified MAF, 52mm Throttle Body, Headders and a 3" Cat-Back w/ a flow-thru Cat.
That will get me the 416 HP out of the 350.

And what, may I ask, is your suggestion?
First read my posting on dynos.
Then read the info at RC Engineering about injectors. There just isn't the bandwidth to quote it evertime someone asks the same guestion. So don't take this as a just read the archives answer.
Then with that under your belt, understand that the gm ecm doesn't do things the same way as the aftermarkets.
The BMFC number (s) are only part of the equation.
You have to ask yourself is this for a closed loop or open loop application, and with or without cats.
So my suggestion is, after you draw you own conclusion, ask me if I agree.

86irocss, 24 # SVO’s will be fine for your setup. They are rated at the lower ford fuel pressure and when you run them at stock GM fuel pressure, they flow 25.6 lb/hour if I remember correctly.

. Or maybe the beginner tuner might see that, not only doesn't he understand the acronyms, but he really doesn't know how to ask a question yet. And he'll get a lot of suggestions from people saying things like: "tiny little injectors work in my car" without an understanding of why they may not work in someone else's.With the (perhaps) necessarily cryptic reply, was also the offer: "So my suggestion is, after you draw you own conclusion, ask me if I agree." This is a whole lot better response than, "these will work in your car." That isn't DIY knowledge (drawing your own conclusion), that is doing what someone else told you without understanding why.

Forgot to add this. I think you're simulator is close. He ought to make 330-350 (a little on the conservative side, I think it may make a bit more). The cam he mentions is sweet and I've seen some cars run their ball$ off with that cam. I'm not a big fan of dyno numbers though. You can have a dyno queen that makes 600 at the wheels and the thing could only run 13.0's. It's a tuning aid. The real test of power is the track
(sorry if I came off as a d!ck earlier. Was having a bad day
)
(sorry if I came off as a d!ck earlier. Was having a bad day
) I Wasn't taking it the the wrong way, either. Don't forget that you lose HP during the transfer to the rear wheels. Now I know what they print and what really happens is two diffrent things, But GMHTP report also Track tests of best times of 12.391@110.13. That's with 14deg. inital timing and 42lbs of fule pressure.

I understand what all are trying to say, and respect everyone's input. I have somehow gotten off the real subject, for which I have found by searching, was the speaking of "Greek". There are still some things I don't understand at this time but will come back with some(I'm sure alot) of questions.
But I would like to speak to Nasty L98 T/A more about the HSR set up. Or anybody for their input as well, on the Holly Stealth Ram.
e-mail me @ irocss89@yahoo.com
A Big THANK-YOU to all.

There is nothing cyptic in my reply I told him what to do, and then check back after doing that. In the process I discribe he gets to learn more about things, and maybe discover some items that allows him to ask more and better guestions.
I didn't notice any Greek in it at all. While I did use the term BMFC, that's hardly greek to any one, and if it was a simple guestion on his part would have gotten a reply. And given he was already given a list of EFI related items I would imagine that it was listed there also.
So I don't see any merit to your critisism of what I said.

I did offer to double check his findings.
Is it really a service to just answer with xx PPH injectors?. How does that help him understand EFI?. He just stated he's a new guy, wouldn't offering sources of where to look for data seem enlightning?. heck he might even generate a greater interest and ask more guestions, and then learn even more.
