Manual Bin Spark timing
Manual Bin Spark timing
I just converted to the Holley Stealth Ram in my car with a 350 and 224/224 @ .050" cam. The problem I am seeing is that, between shifts, there is a loud pop and a loss of power. I attribute this to the fact that I am using an automatic car .bin and, when driving a manual, between shifts the rpm's and Kpa drop where as an automatic simply rolls over to the next RPM at a constant load. My question is:
What value is acceptable for timing at low kpa values between shifts?
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you remedy it?

This is just my experience, but in my tuning days I noticed if I didn't run enuf timing in the high vacuum areas (20-30 kPa) it would start popping like you described.
I think you might also want to adjust some of the throttle follower stuff to let the RPM "hang" between shifts.

Out of curiosity, how much timing was "enough". I would think that the engine would require less timing under no load conditions. Where exactly did this timing come into play (RPM load etc...)
