Prom interchangable??

Will a prom made for a stock 1990 L98 auto work in a stock 1989 L98 auto? Or would the difference in the 90 being SD and the 89 being MAF make it not compatible?

Thanks for any info.

Tim

Nope.

Different ECM and different code. The code is also at a different location on the chip even.

Start lookin though some of the past posts and you can get an idea of what will work with what.

What is your reasoning for wanting the newer PROM?

Thanks for the info...

I was just looking to get an aftermarket Jet chip real cheap but it was for a 90 so I can't use it.

I'm not into or even close to burning my own chips. I would like just a little more aggressive timing/fuel curve and I would also like to delete VATS. Probably some other small things I can't think of right now.

I'll just have to wait til I find another cheap one or wait until I can do my own. (Yea right!!)

Thanks

Tim

What's scaring you off from doing your own chips? Soon, the actual programming will be easier with the PROMinator coming out (I can't wait to get one so that I can get started!) and from what I estimate ( and what has been said about the cost of it) it will even be a bit less expensive. As for the tuning software, you having a 89 MAF car, GMECMEDIT is from what I understand built around it! The bins that come with it are for the 165 ECM!

As for the aftermarket chips, I wouldn't bother, look around an search some old posts about them, they don't seem to do much other than make your car "seem" faster.
