Memcal differences with 350 5-speed???

Memcal differences with 350 5-speed???
I've got a 350 5 speed in my IROC with the 165 ECM. I was running a memcal from an 87 L98 f-body, but today I got one from an 89 LB9 5-speed. Well, this got me wondering which would be better to use. Would using an 87 memcal with a $6E PROM make a difference, or will the 89 memcal work better? What exactly does the Memcal do other than hold the "limp home" data?
