can i retard the timing for startup? if so what do i have to change in the ECU? i have everything to burn my own chips. im not pinging, but with the high compression and when the motor is hot it is hard to start.

I don't know what ecm you're using so I can't tell you where the setting is.

Playing with the startup timing didn't make much of a difference for me, but leaning out the cranking fuel did help when it was a hot start.
i cant find anything related to cranking fuel in my bin file. then again its late and im tired too.

During crank, the engine is running on the ignition module. It's only after the engine starts, and revs exceed about 400 RPM the the ECM goes active in controlling the spark timing.Originally posted by miker61588

generally, 6-8d timing with the EST line disconnected is about right. 10-12 makes for slow cranking hot, and less the 4d in cold weather and the engine just windmills.
