165 ECM Dump from Moates Software
I can't seem to get the ecm dump option to work. I have my own built 2 transistor cable. Everything connects fine, except I can't get it to dump the eprom. I want to get a back up before I start doing the custom prom stuff. (Plan B is to unsolder the prom out of the memcal..but I'm afraid I might damage the chip in the process, plus it'd be nice to keep the stock one as a paperweight)
I have an 89 Firebird L98...stock ECM. I use the program default it says "can't connect to car"....all the other screens work fine. (BTW the speed timing page rocks...6.2 0-60 best so far. )
Should I change the default address $C000?
Another question should I leave the 10K Resistor connection hooked up between A&B?

I have done this with the two transistor cable and moates software, it was the only way to extract the bin from my jet stage 2 chip, but its been so long ago since I did this I can't remember what I did. Try it with the car off and the key in the run position, I think thats how I downloaded it a few times.

I was using a older version of his software at the time, maybe that makes a difference.

I may be remembering this wrong since it's been a long time but it seems with my 165 ecm I had to use decimal numbers when telling the program the size of the bin I was downloading.
Maybe?

It ought to work. You need to 'connect' first and then go to the dump page. Like you say, gotta use decimal. Might be an issue with the newer software version too, haven't messed with it in a while. The older version (850 or 852) should work. Of course you've gotta be in '10k' mode to connect.

I did it using ver 8.50 I believe...over a year ago...and it worked fine. Through the ALDL cable, of course
The engine wasn't running...but the key was in the "on" position...I was testing the TPS and CTS temp values and then I did the dump...3 seperate times and it worked each time.
BTW...165 ECM with a 10K resistor in...and it obviously allowed me to connect. I would check your cable, or find a different 165 ECM to plug in and try to connect.
