Testing ALDL port, 730 ecm

Testing ALDL port, 730 ecm
Is there a way to test the ALDL port? My scan software stopped working so I.
1) Remade the cable, and tripple checked it (2 transistor)
2) Chcked comm port on laptop, hooked up a modem to it.
3) Checked ALDL port to ensure pin A was ground, and pins M, and E both have 4.8 volts
Is there any more checking I can do? Moates software just won't connect anymore.. I've tried a making a few cables.
