New math? 4k = 32k

Working with a 1227747 and 2732As. Replaced the 2732As with and adapter and 29C256. I *thought* that a 2732 was a 32k chip and a 29C256 was a 256k chip. When I started stacking the bins, I realized that the bin file for a 2732 was only 4k. 8 4k bins fills up a 29C256 so that's only 32k. Can someone 'splain this to me.

8 bits in a byte.

2732a is 32 kilobits or 4 kilobytes.
