Scanning a SD 3.1 setup?

What are you guys using to scan the 3.1 '730 ecu?

Win ALDL doesn't work? There's got to be someone out there scanning a V6 '730!

A modified version of Craig's scanner (Moates) is all that I know of. There were a couple of people working on it then they all got quiet. All that needs to be done is to change the packet header values.

Doesn't seem to be too much work for someone to let everyone else use it.

Modified version? Anyone on here have on, or know where to get one?

What exactly is it, that needs modifying in the packet header values?

Here are the packets that are used for mode 1 communication with the 3.1l ECM (mask $88):

Chatter packet:

F0 55 BB

Data Request packet:

F0 56 01 B9

Data Packet:

F0 95 01 00 D0 02 00 00 00 40 40 20 00 00 08 00
00 00 00 00 00 65 00 00 80 00 00 58 0A 5E FA F8
E1 77 00 00 00 11 01 00 00 00 00 40 0D 2E 23 00
00 FF 00 00 00 24 01 F4 20 00 83 00 04 2E 50 80
81 00 23

The chatter packet is sent by the ECM on a regular schedule. The request packet requests a single data packet. After which another request packet is sent. If the data request packets stop for more then 1.5 seconds (IIRC) then the chatter packets are again sent by the ECM.

Moates software handles all of that. Even the baud rate is the same at 8192.

A while ago I looked at his code and it appeared that only a couple of locations required changing.

Not easy to explain. Basically it is the serial communications protocol between a scan tool and the ECM. The packets I've shown are what the ECM sends out along with a data request packet that it recognizes.

In order to make use of this information you'll need to know a little programming, working with hex, checksumming, data communications, serial port setup and usage, and so on.

So basically it is a lot of work to do this. And not something that can be iterated and copied. Better question yet ....has someone done this?

Well then i reckon you can pay someone to figure it out for you, then write it off as a business expense.
