using the stock TBI computer controled distrib with a carb

im going to be switching to a new friends TBI motor to a carbed motor soon...

i believe it was pablo that had found a way to make the computer control just the spark..

any specifics on how to do it? bins i need? ect?

i can have another friend burn a prom, thats not a prob.

if i just dropped it in there as is, does it still run the regular spark tables? even if it doesnt see a TPS, AIC, injectors, ect...? what about the MAP? would it still use that?

any help or links other then to here would be great.

Uh yeah there there wasnt anything to discover and I certainly wasnt the first to do it.

Basically take off the tbi unit and bolt on whatever you will, make sure you reconnect all the sensors, for TPS I just took a zip tie and held it at a setting between what would trip a high tps and low tps code. you wont get WOT spark advance though and probably a few SES lights so id suggest learning to program chips.

If you do and get into tuning youll find yourself longing for fuel injection again anyways though.

If you decide to use the ecm to do this then make sure you take the time setup the timing table properly. My engine ran like poop with the stock table. Had lots of knock at mid map/rpm values adn not enough timing at WOT. I dont know how it is with the later l03 ecms but with mine, after each knock count, i used to have to wait 4 seconds before the timing would be fully restored. The ecm had a very aggressive routine for handling knock. This means taht its adventagious to make sure you dont have detonation otherwise youll have erratic performance.
