prom/chip question

i'm trying to get my car as close to the 12's as i can with a stock L98. One of the few boltons i havent done yet is a chip. I don't want to spend 400-500 on a chip from TPIS because I dont want to spend that money again when i rebuild the engine and put in a larger cam and better heads. My question is will i get any power gains from a cheap aftermarket chip for example( JET, HYPERTECH)are chip like this even worth installing and what times do chips like this knock off 1/4 mile times?.........Thanks Eric

Spend $200 or so and do your own chips. And you'll be able to take care of any changes.

Changing thermostats, and rad fan switches will get you about the same effect as most of the aftermarkets. Some of the aftermarkets spent more time in making their chips hard to read the actually changing anything.
