better datalogger than winaldl?

can someone explain the ADVANTAGE in going to an alternative data logger other than winaldl? what is the advantage? and can you mention the alternatives by name? i know some are fee based but that is OK WITH ME. I am running SD 7747 with tunercat and windows XP.

Hmm, second time you asked about this. Must be thinking of Lockers, 15 frames a second of all 256 bytes of ECM RAM along with 6 channels of 10-bit ADC.

Doesn't get any better then that. Plans & software used to be on the diy-efi incoming ftp site. Don't know where to look over there now.

RBob.

Ronny, looks like you and I are on a similar path. Lockers sounds great but I am not sure I am up to a DYI project right now especially since I am still hung up on some of the math in my post below.

If there is already a post on tunerpro/rt VS Winaldl I will find it.
If not, can someone tell me the advantages of tunerpro??
Do I have to get another adapter for my laptop or can I use
the one I got for aldl( I think I got if from craig but don't remember)................thanks bob

Maybe I should jump in here and make some things clear before this turns into "TunerPro vs winALDL".

WinALDL is specifically for 160 baud datalogging. If you're logging at 160 baud, the 160 baud is the bottleneck for speed. winALDL is one of THE best programs out there for most 160 baud applications. If you're simply logging 160 baud, you're fine with winALDL and won't benefit from TunerPro (it won't log any faster or any more information). 160 baud will yield around a sample every 1.3 seconds.

If you're logging 8192 baud, winALDL will not work for you. There are a number of other options available to you, including moates ECM 852 (165/730 ECMs), datamaster (commercial), TunerPro RT, and others. 8192 is much faster for logging. 10-11 samples per second is possible.

There aren't many ECM's that can do both 160 and 8192 (called "hybrid" ECMs), but the 1227165 is one of them. If you have one and your codemask is set up for it, 8192 is what you should be using, in my opinion, simply because you get a sample rate on the order of 12x 160 baud, and more information gets dumped to the port.

Regarding cables - 160 baud can use a much simpler cable for data acquisition, but can use any cable available. 8192 requires at least a 2-trans cable (I believe), but a MAX232/233 cable is recommended.

I have a copy of the Lockers plans. I grabbed a copy of if some time ago, but I havn't done anything with it. Anyway, it's too large to post here (about 772 KB), so if someone wants to host it on their site, I will be glad to email it.

i have a copy too. i've always wanted to do it, but lack the oscilloscope to do so. if anyone wants to plans, i can also e-mail them out.

at this point though, i am looking into swapting to the 749 ecm to drive the TBI injectors, then i can get better logs, i have been able to make do with 160baud, but i would love to be able to get more than 1 or 2 datapoints in a WOT log
