How do I get the programmer to read my eprom?

I have searched and searched for this info but all I find is programming and erasing threads. I followed the directions and I can't figure out how to get the PP2 to read my eprom. Then somewhere I read that I have to use the right definition file with the PP2 programming. ??? I thought that was for the tunercat software. I have read all of the tutorials on this board and I only have more questions. Is there something I don't know? I tried the help button on the PP2 software but the help window pops up behind another window so I can't read all of the words. The instructions that came with it (paper and readme file) were both vague and uninformative. I have deer in headlight syndrome right now.
Is there anything else out there that can help me?

When you first open up the software, you see a bunch of buttons surrounded by colored boxes. I remember that I had to click on the last button in the green box and select what type of chip I am using before it would let me do anything.

Hope that helps some

Ok, the last button is 'no device'. I click on that and all of the buttons turn gray. Where do I select which type of chip I am using?

The huge white box that pops up in the middle of the screen

If it is still saying no device, that is most likely the issue.

The one I am using is Atmel 5V AT29C256, your's may or may not be the same.

Yes, when I start the program, I get the pop up box that says 'no device selected'. Where in the world do I change that at? I was told that this would be a windows based application and the PP2 program doesn't operate or look like one.

Ok, nevermind. I got it. I had to throw a couple of things around the garage but I go it. Thanks for your help and patience.
